What Is Dry Cupping Therapy?

Dry Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine that involves placing cups on the skin to create suction and is used to dispel stagnant blood and lymph.

How Exactly Does Dry Cupping Therapy Work?

Using glass cups, heat is applied inside to burn the oxygen which creates the suction between the cup and the skin.

The suction draws blood to the affected area which improves the circulation and flow of qi (pronounced ‘Chi’ which means energy).

When qi flows freely, the body is balanced and healthy. If the energy becomes blocked or stagnated, it can lead to physical, mental and emotional ill health.

Cupping therefore brings the body back into balance.

The History Of Cupping Therapy

Although cupping may be new to many, it is a therapy that has been used for 1000’s of years and is thought to have originated from China.

There is also evidence it was used as far back as the Egyptians to help cure frequent medical issues as well as by the Greeks dating back as far as 400BC.

What Can I Expect From My Appointment?

An initial face-to-face (or phone) consultation will be carried out in order to determine suitability of the treatment by completing a medical history form.

Following the consultation, the treatment will then be carried out on a day convenient to you. The session is approximately 45, plus 30 minutes for the first initial consultation.

Aftercare

Following a cupping session, there may be some reddening and ring marks as evidence of treatment. This is completely normal and the marks should reduce and fade within a few days.

The extent of the marks depends on the length of treatment, the client’s health and the strength of suction used.

Hot showers and baths should be avoided for 24 hours as should stimulants such as tea, coffee, alcohol and fizzy drinks. Drinking plenty of water will help with the removal of toxins. Regular relaxation periods are encouraged.

A treatment plan can also be arranged to maintain benefits.

Success Stories

“I had a cupping session and 1-2-1 mindfulness. My complete experience was professional, at ease and 100%. Tina was so lovely and thorough. I had a car accident 4 days previous and was in alot of pain. I came out feeling completely rejuvenated and relaxed. I will be going back to either repeat my treatment or try another treatment and would highly recommend. Thank you Tina. You have eased my pain a lot.”
