What Is A Pregnancy Massage?
A pregnancy massage, also known as a prenatal massage, is a unique treatment for expectant mothers designed to reduce aches and pains, aid circulation, alleviate anxiety and stress, promote bonding with mother and baby, reduce fluid retention as well as many other benefits.
In order to provide optimum comfort, the client will usually lay on their side or sit in a semi-reclining position. This ensures less pressure as lying on your back can restrict blood flow and put too much pressure on the abdomen of the expectant mother.
To alleviate any lower-back pressure, the therapist may use the aid of specially designed pillows or bolsters to support the knees and feet.
The Benefits Of A Pregnancy Massage
There are a range of benefits in having a pregnancy massage. These include:
- Promotes relaxation.
- Alleviates anxiety and stress.
- Reduces aches and pains.
- Promotes bonding between mother and baby.
- Helps reduce oedema in upper and lower extremities.
- Aids relief of muscular-skeletal discomfort.
- Helps with the release of hormones to prepare for labour.
- Improved sleep.
- Helps to promote the release of oxytocin – a hormone which stimulates the ripening of the cervix to prepare for labour.
Is A Pregnancy Massage Safe?
A pregnancy massage is generally recommended as safe depending on factors such as lifestyle and diet etc. As with most treatments, it is recommended you take a safety-first approach and consult a general practitioner or alternative physician.
- 90 Minutes = £45
Please Note: The treatment is 60 minutes, however, extra time is given to help maintain the comfort of the expectant mother.
Packages can also be discussed.
What Can I Expect From My Appointment?
An initial face-to-face (or phone) consultation will be carried out in order to determine suitability of the treatment by completing a medical history form. We can also discuss a treatment plan that can help maintain well-being during pregnancy. Following the consultation, the treatment will then be carried out on a day convenient to you.
What Oils Are Used?
There is the option of using essentials for the treatment which are blended with a carrier oil to use safely on the skin. However, a carrier oil such as Almond or Grape Seed oil may be used neat if preferred. The client’s preference will be taken into consideration alongside suitability which is determined when completing the medical history form.
Please note. A pregnancy massage will only be carried out following a full consultation, and that the client is at least 12 weeks into her pregnancy
